How do I send a money transfer?

Go online to the Walmart MoneyGram online store. From this page you can transfer money to be picked up at any Walmart store in the United States and Puerto Rico. A few things you will need to know:

- Receiver's legal name: for security purposes, you will need to know the legal name of the Receiver and be sure to type it correctly during the money transfer. The Receiver will need to show a valid, government issued identification (I.D.) with a matching name in order to receive the money transfer.

- Receiver's location: find out in what location (state or Puerto Rico) your Receiver would like to pick up the money transfer. Before you transfer, make sure there is a Walmart store at their location. Note: your Walmart MoneyGram online store transaction will only be available for pick up at Walmart stores

Where can I send a money transfer to?

From the Walmart MoneyGram online store, you can send a money transfer online to be picked up at any Walmart store in the United States and Puerto Rico. Note: money transfers from the Walmart MoneyGram online store are not available for international destinations. If you need to send money to an international destination, you can visit any MoneyGram location inside a Walmart store.

How much money can I transfer?

It varies with how you want to pay for your money transfer - if you pay with:

- Credit or debit card: you may send between $1 - $899.99 per transfer
- Checking account: you may send between $50 - $499.99; also you may send up to $3,000.00 every 30 days
- Note for Arizona: if you are sending money to be picked up at a Walmart store in Arizona, the maximum you can send is $499.99.

How much does it cost to transfer money?

How do I retrieve my user name or password?

Username: your username is an email address that you selected when you first transferred money. If you forgot which email address you used, please call 1-800-689-8307.

Password: from the Walmart MoneyGram online store, click the Sign In link. On this page, you will see a "Forgot Your Password?" link. Once you verify your identity, you can reset your password.

What are my currency options for a money transfer?

From the Walmart MoneyGram online store , you can send and receive in the U.S. dollar.

What do I need to have to transfer money?

From the Walmart MoneyGram online store, you will need the following information to send money:

  • - Email address: you will need an email address to send money. Make sure you pick an email address that you can access.

  • - Phone number: either a home or mobile number

  • - Physical address information

  • - Last four digits of your Social Security number

  • - Date of birth

  • - Receiver's information and location: you will need your Receiver's legal name and in what location (state or Puerto Rico) they want to pick up the money transfer

  • - Payment information: depending on which payment option you select, you'll need your payment information:

    • * Credit or debit: MoneyGram accepts Visa or MasterCard

    • * Checking account: you will need your checking account number, bank routing number, and name of the financial institution. You can find this information on your checks. Note: If paying by checking account, you will also need to provide one of the following forms of identification:

      • + Driver's license number and state of issuance

      • + Military ID number

      • + Matricula ID number

  • - Identity validation: for your security, you will need to answer some identity verification questions. This added level of security helps us protect your transactions.

What do I need to give the Receiver of the money transfer?

After you complete the online money transfer, you will receive an email. This email will have instructions for signing into the Walmart MoneyGram online store's My Account. On the My Account page, you will see the Reference Number (Reference #). Please give this number to the Receiver of the money transfer. Note: They will need to have this Reference Number when they go to the Walmart store to pick up their money transfer. The Receiver must go to a Walmart store in the location (state or Puerto Rico) you specify.

What do I do if I received an "Unable to Complete Transaction" message?

This was most likely due to an error with your information or problem with your payment method. If you received this message, we have sent you an adverse action letter to your email address you used when signing up. Please review this letter for more details.

What types of money transfer I can send from the Walmart MoneyGram online store?

Currently, you may send money for a cash pick up at any Walmart store in the United States or Puerto Rico. At this time, you can't use the money transfer to send money to a bank account or to a business.

Can I add instructions or a message to my Receiver with the money transfer?

Yes! You can add a 40-character message to your money transfer.

Can I use my MoneyGram REWARD® card on my Walmart MoneyGram store transfer?

No, currently rewards aren't applied to money transfers through the Walmart MoneyGram online store. However, you can visit a Walmart store and transfer money if you would like to use your MoneyGram REWARDS.

Should I provide my financial information from an email request?

The Walmart MoneyGram online store will never send you an unsolicited email asking for your personal or financial information. You should only submit your information if you know that you have signed into the secure Walmart MoneyGram online store. This site will ask for your username and password.

What are the security image, phrase, and questions used for?

For added security and protect against phising, you will be asked to pick a security image and assign a phrase to that image. When signing in, if that image and phrase do not match what you selected, then do not sign in and contact the Walmart MoneyGram online store via walmartMGO@moneygram.com email or phone 1-800-689-8307 immediately.

Upon money transfer, you will be asked to select three security questions and provide an answer to these questions. These questions will be used if you forget your username.

How can I be sure only the Receiver can pick up the money transfer?

The person receiving the Walmart MoneyGram money transfer, the Receiver, must present a valid, government-issued identification (I.D.) and know information that the Sender provided to them about the money transfer.
